bony lump on the tail

Good day!
I have a 4months old grey bitch who presents a bony lump on her tail (approx 2 cm from the tail's end); pls. see the first pic, the lump is quite large and visible.
As far as I understood, such lumps are a genetic inheritance, and normally do not raise any issue in terms of health. I should mention that my pup does not have any problem with her tail, she does not chew or bite or seem to be "attracted" in any way by this lump.
But, couple of days ago, as result of a strong banging of the tail against a wall, the skin broke and the bony lump came out. It was just a little bit of bleeding, we cleaned/disinfected the place and left it to "breath"; only when going out for playing, we protect the area with a light bandage, in order to avoid a potential infection.
Here are some pics of the "problem"
So far so good, the area is clean, we sent the pics to our vet and are waiting for a feed-back.
However, for our vet (as well as for most vets in our area) the greyhound breed, care, issues, etc, are quite uncommon and this is the rationale for my post.
I would like to hear from a greys' expert what could be the options, the most advisable approach(es) in such a case.
I could not find any on-line literature about bony lumps on greyhounds' tails; one breeder tells me that he would opt for amputation, while other two breeders tell me that I should leave it as it is, as it should not pose much trouble other than potential bleeding in case of repeated banging of the tail against hard surfaces.
An amputation sounds quite drastic to me, and I would prefer to avoid it if possible; I am, however, kind of worried about this bone coming out of the skin!
Isn't there any "cosmetic" procedure, i.e. small surgical intervention to just polish that small bony lump?
I would very much appreciate reading your views, experiences, opinions, suggestions about the above.
Many thanks,
Cristina
