Hi Karl,
Mate this is a difficult one for me to answer because in the past I have been more concerned with keeping the pads soft and pliable to stop splitting in the pads.
I have never been in a situation where I have had to toughen the pads of a greyhound. Keep in mind that pads are in fact skin cells that grow outward in small strands and thus form the tough pad material.
It of course quite possible that the pads will wear excessively due to the surface the dog is walking on, such as long walks on concrete footpaths.
The only suggestion I can make is that applying a cotton ball soaked in tannic acid to each toe pad and allowed it to dry on a daily basis for a week should harden the surface of the pads sufficiently for them to be able to stand more wear and tear.
Cheers, Tom
PS. Maybe someone reading this post may come up with a better suggestion.
