Hi Barney,
You should be ok to start light exercise once the swelling and bruising has disappeared. However it’s important to maintain massage treatment and stretching exercises for at least two days after each exercise session.
Stretching exercises are done by standing on the opposite side of the dog, leaning across, picking up the foot, and lifting it towards the tip of the shoulder blade. Repeating that movement ten times.
Under the circumstances it certainly wouldn’t hurt to repeat the same treatment to the opposite leg to maintain better balance between both limbs.
Cheers, Tom

Hi Barney,
That certainly is a problem, as that could only occur as the result of a muscle tear.
While I have some concerns, keep in mind that muscle damage to either the top or bottom attachments of muscle and the attachment to the hamstring is a major worry, while damage to the body of the muscle isn’t good, the muscle will still be functional providing scar tissue can be kept to a minimum.
Unfortunately the only real option now is to have it looked at by an experienced greyhound veterinarian to ascertain exactly what damage has occurred.
Cheers, Tom
