Hi Bill,
I’m going to assume it’s the main flexor tendon in the wrist that was torn, and that is a very severe injury.
Unfortunately healing in tendons is a slow process, and you are looking at a minimum of three months possible four before the wrist will be able to handle much in the way of strain and pressure.
As far as returning to racing is concerned much depends on her current age, with the chance of her racing again diminishing if she is over three years of age, and will also depend on the amount of scar tissue left as a result of the injury and the surgical repair process.
Physiotherapy will mainly consist of toe flexion, hold and release, and with either Lasonil or Hirudoid cream rubbed in to the injury site to help to reduce scar tissue and aid flexion.
Because such an injury can also cause a considerable amount of residual pain I’m not very confident in regard to a successful return to racing, we can only hope for the best outcome.
Cheers, Tom

Hi Rob,
Sorry mate but you are going to have to get her examined by an experienced greyhound veterinarian ASAP, and the wrist will most likely required an X-ray.
The fact that the swelling is still there after5 days, and still extremely sore makes me think that the injury to the wrist could involve a fractured stopper bone rather than just tendon damage.
Cheers, Tom

I’ll keep my fingers crossed she pulls up without any pain or further damage. Cheers, Tom

Hi Bill
Not a alot really rubbed some rapidgel or chinese linement on it after any work plenty of rest she came on season at the same time as the first injury i believe allowing more time is better than rushing back underdone we kept her in a kennel. only out for toileting until stitches out then she was let out in a very small (5m x 5m) yard started on the walker slow pace twice daily 5mins at a time building up to 15 mins then slipped her at cranbourne (competition slipping track) a few times then back to sandown for post to back hand slips lt was here she was pulling up a little sore des told me she would after first 6 or 7 runs. it was scar tissue /adhesions tearing again . Sandowns tight turn would show up soreness a bit more. not as bad at healsville or traralgon though unfortunately second stopper injury tore at traralgon we had to start again on the other leg did similar but didnt have to wait for season this time . shes running better than before now. No doubt Des did a terriffic job many had said not likely to race as tom says it is a very "severe injury" luckly she had no bone damage i was probably a bit too cautious as des said she could have been back running (free galloping) sooner after the second one .she did the first one on 31/12/2022 sandown second one on 06/06/2023 traralgon we were only breaking her in the first time so there has been some more retraining since. as tom said could be min 3 or 4 months
