Hi Dave,
L carnitine is best given orally as intramuscular injections have been known to cause muscle damage if the greyhound is galloped within 24 hours of having been injected.
The recommended daily dosage is 100 mg per kg, and because it’s an amino acid it’s best given with food.
L carnitine is a worthwhile supplement with many benefits, however while extremely rare, unwanted side effects can include nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, and even seizures in some instances.
