Hi, Have you ever used Odzon imbrocation on a greyhound to help against inflammation after a run.
How best do you use it I.e. how often and when, also did it work better when the dog is wet to allow better soakage of the product.
Thanks

Hi Tom,
To be quite honest I have only ever used Odzon for a limited period because when applied as per directions it certainly cause scurvy looking skin and as such I was not really impressed with the product.
The directions were: Care should be taken if massaging as scurfing will occur after a few massages. Blistering will occur if bandaging is applied even after a few days, and an occlusive dressing will produce a strong blister almost overnight. ODZON is best applied by hand or with a cotton wool pad. Preferably apply 4 or 5 applications of ODZON, allowing a few minutes for each application to soak into the skin.
I found that even applying Odzon just once and lightly massaging it in caused the scurvy looking skin, and I simply did not like the idea of having to apply as many as 4 or 5 applications to treat a specific injury, nor did I want to apply something that could cause the area to blister if for instance the dog was rugged against the cold and it reacted as if it had been bandaged.
For those reasons I could not recommend using this product over large muscle areas of the dog in an attempt to reduce the muscle strain or fatigue of a hard run.
Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom, My all time favourite was Old Timers R-Iodine, however it would appear that it’s no longer widely available as this is the only one I could see that stocked this particular liniment. Old Timers R-IodineCheers, Tom

Hi Tom, is there a withholding period for Old timers R-Iodine before racing?

Hi Tom, is there a withholding period for Old timers R-Iodine before racing? Hi John, While I’m not aware of a specific withholding period for Old Timers Iodine liniment you need to remember that it contains Methyl Salicylate and it’s best discontinued 48 hours prior. And while I not aware that it would definitely cause a positive swab, I don’t think either the Stewards nor the Vet would be very impressed with a dog that fronted up to go over the table to be cleared for racing if it had iodised oil on any part of its body. Cheers, Tom
