My grey had a fever of 105.4 last Thursday and a limp. He did not want to put weight on front left paw. I took him to the ER and his blood work and X-rays came back normal. They did an ultrasound and he had an enlarged spleen. He was kept overnight and sent home the next day with antibiotics and anti inflammatories. Now on day 5, his entire foot is swollen. No fever, but won’t walk on his foot at all. Is this a mysterious greyhound related Illness??

Hi Kim,
No that is definitely not a mysterious greyhound only illness, but most likely an infection somewhere in the foot itself, and the most likely area would be a puncture wound between two of the toes.
Easily missed during an examination as it can be high up at the very top of the front of the webbing.
Time to get back and very carefully examine every part of the swollen foot, and if a damp or weepy area is found most likely between two toes liberal applications of Betadine is going to help, and an additional course of antibiotics from your vet of course.
Cheers, Tom
