Hi JoHN,
No change of diet is going to make any real difference with acidosis except a wholesome stew with plenty of meat three times per week to boost fluid absorption rather than just dry food such as nuts will give you the best results.
For the rest of it, you will have to be guided by your vet and have plenty of patience, as recovery from acidosis is likely to take up to three months, and yes unfortunately many dogs that suffer acidosis never fully recover their previous muscle structure or athletic ability.
Cheers, Tom

Woulkd a steroid such as testosterone propionate help reduce muscle loss Hi JoHN, Yes weekly anabolic steroid injections for four weeks will certainly help in rebuilding muscle loss, speed recovery, and act as a general pick me up. The only reason I didn’t suggest using these is because most steroid injections can result in a positive swab for three months or more after the last injection, and while Testoprop is extremely short acting it is still listed with a 60 day withholding period.
