Hi Phil,
That injury does in most instances mean the end of a greyhound’s racing career as it severely affects the stability of the leg whenever the dog puts real pressure on it, particularly when trying to negotiate a turn.
Surgical repair is the only option that has any chance of success, and that really then depends not only on the severity of the injury, but also how long ago the injury occurred.
When tissue tears off the bone it tends to shrink away from the bone, and can therefore be difficult to reattach even if there is some tissue left on the bone to reattach it to.
If you do wish to get the greyhound racing again my advice is to see a specialist greyhound Veterinarian as he/she is going to be the only one that is going to be able to give you a valid answer.
Cheers, Tom
