Hi, I was reading here that chicken fat was the best form to feed. What I was wondering was is it ok to give processed fat instead of feeding chicken itself?

Dave Yes not a problem Dave, the fact that it has been processed makes no difference to it’s actual structure or the nutritional value. Cheers, Tom

Hi Dave, The quantity of fat added to the diet certainly depends upon any other fat provided in that diet, such as the fat content of the meat and or any dry food. However as a general rule feeding reasonable lean beef it would be a level table spoon full, but then if you were feeding roo meat it would need to be upped to twice that quantity. Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom how would you create chicken fat is it just a matter of putting chicken skin in the main meal or do you boil the skin and make a batch let it cool down put in the freezer and allow the liquid to turn into a solid and then put it in the meal or do you boil a chicken and take the liquid and put it in the fridge so it can turn into a solid and then feed in the meal sorry for asking just wanting to learn THANK YOU.

Hi Bill,
Trying to process either chicken skin or whole chicken to obtain chicken fat could quickly become a time consuming and expensive procedure. While chicken fat is reputed to be easily absorbed and highly nutritious, it is not the holy grail of improving performances, after all it is still just animal fat.
If it’s easily available certainly use it, if not there is nothing wrong with using lard for the same purpose.
