While I must admit I personally prefer a hydrobath as compared to a jacuzzi, mainly because I have found considerable benefits of using the showerhead, the hot water, all delivered by a powerful pump, as a method of massaging the sore and tired muscle tissue of a greyhound the day after a race or hard trial behind the lure.
In a nutshell, I believe that a hot bath at least once a week is essential to the health and wellbeing of a racing greyhound, preferably the day after a race.
I have no time for anyone that states that you should not bath dogs too often as it washes out the natural oil in their coat as that is absolute rubbish. All dogs must be kept clean as it minimizes the chance of skin infections and flea infestations, and in fact a dog with a clean coat will be shinier than one that's never had a bath.
The one main "don't do" I have with hydrobaths or a jacuzzi, is not to mix any chemicals or liniments with the bath water in an effort to supposedly reduce sore muscle tissue as this more often than not causes skin irritations, is very uncomfortable for the dog, and in reality does little or nothing to relieve sore muscle tissue compared to just a soak in, or a massage with clean hot water.
Cheers, Tom
