It is exactly three weeks since my dogs got kennel cough. They are not coughing now but I trialled them today was v disappointed , Is this down to cough?? Does it still effcet their energy levels?? Hi Jack, While it's always difficult to be certain but the answer is most likely yes, for the following reasons. There is every likelihood that a viral infection such as kennel cough has affected the blood count and may have resulted in some level of anaemia. A severe dose of kennel cough can for a short period of time affect lung capacity, and therefore affect the amount of oxygen available to the red blood cells. This could take two or three runs to come back to normal. Then there is the situation that the greyhound would have had little or no running exercise for three weeks and that certainly has a negative effect on its ability to perform. There is also the underlying concern that if the first trial back was very difficult for the dog in regard to available energy levels due to possible anaemia or lack of fitness that it could further setback its full recovery. Cheers, Tom
