hi there Tom . I've got a excitable & hard pulling grey can you advice me on what best supplements to give daily and on a raceday & how long before race to give mark &Donna Unfortunately there nothing that I'm aware of which can relax a greyhound and reduce anxiety effectively prior to racing without either affecting the greyhounds performance and/or risking in a positive swab. While B group vitamins such as B6 (Pyridoxine), B1 (Thiamine), and B3 (Niacinamide) are vitamin supplements generally recommended to reduce anxiety because of their positive effects on the nervous system, and their ability to stabilize the body's lactate levels which are responsible in some instances for increased anxiety, unfortunately their effect is minimal when it comes to prerace stress. The real problem is that during breaking in everything is done to condition a greyhound to chase as hard as possible and thereby become an effective racing greyhound. In many greyhounds to run and chase the lure becomes the main focal point of their lives, and only age and the right type of handling can help to reduce any negative effects of that on race day. Which is going to take a considerable amount of time and requires that you as the handler of the greyhound become as important to the greyhound as running and racing, and this in turn will make you more effective in ensuring the greyhound focuses more on you prior to racing than stressing about what it knows is about to occur. Cheers, Tom
