G'day tom, I've got a bitch who after a trial walks with her front legs very high, like a horse does in dressage. Then by the time you get her to the wash bey she is almost about to drop, here eyes go all big and she looks at you all lost and she leans on the wash bay and can barely hold herself up, it doesn't last for long but it's horrible. She hasn't always done it but her last 3 runs she has.. she can run 1000m in the work runs and there isn't any problem... we had her bloods done and it showed nothing.
Have you ever seen this before? Any advice you could offer would be a huge help.

Hi Nick,
Mate that certainly is a problem that has to be sorted before she is nominated to race again. While I have seen a number greyhounds that were extremely tired in the wash bays nothing that severe.
Because of her gait from the track to the wash bay I'm inclined to be looking for a severe muscle spasm in the front end somewhere, particularly the upper spinal section where the radial nerves exit the spine, including the saddle muscles where they meet the lower side of the neck. It would also be worth having a good look at the muscle tissue on the front of each limb from the elbow to the top of the shoulder blades.
However first of all, and while it could mean having to make an appointment with your vet at a time when and where you could give her an easy run behind the lure first to place the system under some stress, and that is to urgently have her heart function and condition checked.
Cheers, Tom
