Hi Donna,
Unlike humans who lose sodium when sweating, greyhounds even after strenuous exercise do not lose electrolytes from their body by panting, so there is certainly no need to supply additional electrolyte mixtures or additional sodium to a greyhound on a adequate diet even during hotter weather.
However maintaining sufficient potassium is important, and there are some advantages to boosting the level of potassium in the body prior to racing. So providing one Slow K tablet in the main meal the night before racing can have positive effects in maintaining appropriate electrolyte levels.
Cheers, Tom

hi Tom his potassium chloride powder the same as slow k tablets could I give 1/2 teaspoon of potassium chloride daily all year round . Thanx Donnie . Hi Donnie, Yes it is the same, the only difference being that the Slow K tablets are slow release. However they are designed to release while they pass through the human intestine, and because a canine intestine is shorter than a human intestine a 1/2 or even a quarter of a teaspoon of potassium chloride powder may be a better option than a Slow K tablet. The reason that potassium is generally prescribed in a slow release form is that straight potassium tablets releasing in the stomach can cause severe stomach problems, but this should not occur as much with the potassium powder providing its diluted and mixed thoroughly with the rest of the meal. Cheers, Tom
