Tom
The fastest dog Ive ever had is absolutely destroying me with his barking.
I'm on final warning from council.
Ive tried every barking muzzle leather and wire
Every collar from citranella to electrodes
Will operating to remove his vocal/barking chords adversely affect performance?

Mate, the dog certainly is extremely bad if you are contemplating this operation! While it is not a common procedure on greyhounds I know of no reason why it should affect performance in any way. Unfortunately all operations on the throat of a greyhound do carry a certain element of danger and debarking is a complicated and invasive procedure. While I’m not certain about other States, Victoria does have a Code of Practice pertaining to the debarking procedure that the Veterinarian has to comply with. See: Vic Code of Practice re-DebarkingFrom what I know about the procedure I believe it is best done via the throat rather than through the mouth, simply because if the procedure is done through the mouth only a limited amount of the vocal cords can be removed, and this could lead to partial regeneration and the likelihood of the resultant scar tissue affecting breathing and therefore performance. Personally if I was you I would have a real good talk to your Veterinarian about this procedure and any possible long-term complications if it was carried out. If you do go down this road, preparation of the dog prior to the operation is extremely important as the type of anaesthesia that is commonly used for throat operations does affect greyhounds as a breed far more than other breeds of dogs. It is therefore important that the dog has a week off without running prior to the op, and to make sure the dog is fully hydrated and not suffering any type of stress symptoms. I would go as far as to recommend that the dog be injected with 4ml (2X2ml)of Tripart or Tridenosin both 4 days prior, and again 24 hours prior. Cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom
Very important advise indeed thank you
Yes he is the worst and fastst Ive had in 30 years,
Ive currently built him in a yard 10m x 10m, with no kennel, trees for shade, picking a tick, a day of him and spraying him with Tropical Strength RID, for the flies - "butter wouldn't melt in his mouth" !!!!!!
Quiet as a lamb !!!!
And trialled faster too !
Looks like he is just going to have to get wet when it rains.
