Hi Tom,
We have a undershot bitch that has been a fussy eater and with further inspection found that her right hand side canine tooth is pushing into the roof of her mouth causing an ulcer. I'm hoping you may of come across this before and have an idea what might be the best form of treatment. Would it be better to have the tooth filed down or removed altogether. I have herd that removing the tooth with a big root structure can cause issues with the jaw is this true.

Hi Nathan,
That is certainly an unusual occurance that the size of the tooth actually causes eating problems, and yes the extraction of a canine toooth can be a difficult and often an expensive surgery as it does require dental X-rays and an experienced veterinary dentist to avoid jaw fractures.
While my own experience is extremely limited in this area if there is a possibility of trimming and capping or sealing the tooth it would be a far better option than extraction.
Cheers, Tom
