My dog broke his right hock in several places 2 months ago, although hes got 3 pins inserted which are securing the hock bones and wiring the calcifying process is very slow, he was re-xrayed Wednesday and vet suggested more xrays in a month and said not calcified enough yet.
Is there a product that may speed up the process, the dog obviously will not run again and will be kept as a pet, would Adequan be of any benefit?

Hi Stephen,
Unfortunately in some instances the healing of fractures, particularly those that have had surgery to repair and realign the fractured bones, can be extremely slow to heal.
Other than giving it time there is not a lot that can be done, and while Adequan is a good anti inflammatory/pain reducing product it could in fact slow the healing of fractures. Instead of that it may be worthwhile to ask your vet about giving the dog an injection of an anabolic steroid as that will be much more effective in stimulating a stronger and faster healing response.
Cheers, Tom
