Hi tom just looking for advice. When I pick up the skin on my dogs back it goes down slowly. Iv been told this is a sign of dehydration. Is there anything specifically I should be feeding to prevent this? Iv been giving extra soup in their dinners but it doesn't seem to change. Their coats are still not as I would like either which is just a sign of their poor form... I use recharge after a trial or gallop. I know they can't be performing to max ability while they are like this, help please! Thanks, John.

Hi John,
I'm sorry mate but there is no easy answer to that question as severe dehydration (and yes when the skin goes back slowly it is severe dehydration) is simply a symptom of an underlying health problem.
Any greyhound in that situation needs to be taken out of work, and have a full blood profile done, including liver and kidney function, to find out exactly what the cause is.
If however this blood profile just shows signs of stress with no underlying illness, then the cause has to be placed back in the hands of the trainer, who is going to have to have a really hard look at their feeding and training methods.
Cheers, Tom
