Hi Roo7
This problem is mostly bought about by the dog either damaging part of the neck muscles either on the lure or by hitting their head on the lid of the starting boxes. If the damage was done on the lure arm it will most likely be down low on the neck, and if the damage was done by hitting the starting box lid it will be just in behind the skull at the Atlas.
Like all muscle damage it takes time to heal, and in some instances may leave scar tissue. In the case of the neck muscles as well as those of the spine it can also cause a painfull and long lasting muscle spasm.
Carefully checking and palpitating the muscle tissue in both areas and any pain response or discomfort should give you a better idea as to what area needs treatment, and treatment still consist of massaging the area thoroughly, and applying a heat producing liniment such as Zheng Gu Shui.
I would expect that this would need to be done twice daily for three days before any real relief would be noted, and then possibly for a further three days after allowing the area to settle for a couple of days.
The alternative of course is to find a reputable person that is experienced in manipulating and adjusting the greyhounds skeleton, and then doing a three day treatment session after the muscle spasm in area has been released by manipulation.
Cheers, Tom
