Hi Tom,
My female is nearing the end of pre training, She tries extremely hard in her trials and she is exhausted afterwards and seems to bloat up and a bit hunched over is this normal? She is fine when she cools down and gets her breath back.
Regards Rob

Hi Rob,
This reaction is of course not normal and can relate to various causes, however, from what you have described it is most likely that the stomach and coupling muscles are cramping or over tightening. It still means that the run distance is possibly a little further than the girl is able to handle comfortably at this stage of fitness, or could even be due to genetic limitations. Having said that, additional magnesium in the diet, or an electrolyte mixture containing magnesium would certainly help reduce this type of cramping.
Cheers, Tom

I Give her Recharge after her trials is this enough or should I be giving it to her more often, and it was a pretty hot day.

Hi Rob,
Recharge is OK but it does not contain enough magnesium to reduce cramping or muscle spasm, however the biggest impact on how the dog pulls up after a run is still the question, is this dog capable of running that distance comfortably taking into consideration it's blood lines as well as its current state of fitness and health?
Cheers, Tom

I think so she has had about 10 trials as well as numerous runs at the local slipping track, the distance was only 390m, And she is bred to get a lot further, sire is Spring Gun and dame is out of Where`s pedro. but like I said she really tries her heart out and it was a warm day, she also has had some minor problems with her hamstrings and calfs. I have also been told she is a little over weight but I don't believe so myself.
Thanks Tom
