Just wondering Tom is there anything i can give my dog before/after a run that will help with his recovery. Worked him up slowly and have gave him 2 ptp slips to be fit enough for a 500. He drank a bit of water but has fully recovered after 2 days, i just want to make sure i can give him anything that might help him recover and minimize any chance of acidosis or water diabetes. It was his first 500 for a while (he is fitter now then ever before) but i want to try be preventative rather then have to treat a more serious thing.

Hi Pete,
One of the most effective injections to aid recovery after a hard run is Tridenosen. This is used by injecting 2 ml intramuscular into each hind leg, 4 ml in total. However having said that I'm not all that keen on regular intramuscular injections as sooner or later they do cause damage in the muscle tissue, so I would recommend using such injections only when you really need to.
More info can be found by doing a search on this site on Tridenosen as there are a few posts mentioning this product.
Cheers, Tom
