I have returned to training after many many years out of the sport.l have a dog that I am led to believe was on thyroxin tablets should he be put back on them.l have had him for 3 months and has had 2 races not up to standard.lhave just had a total blood test done today awaiting results. Any thoughts would be great.

Hi Lindsay,
I think it is probably best to wait to see what the overall blood profile results are, and what your Vet recommends rather than jumping the gun on this.
There are so many other factors involved in a greyhound performing poorly, and while it does make a difference with some greyhounds, in my own situation I have never had a greyhounds performances improve markedly as a result of thyroid hormone supplementation.
Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom Thank you for your prompt reply. Not having trained for 30 plus years I find i am on a whole new learning curve . Thanks to the Internet and your wonderful site I am finding it extremely helpful. I am located in the tropics far removed from the southern states which in turn presents its own problems. We have to deal with extreme heat in which we train and race . We also do not have vet's that are dedicated to greyhounds as you have down south. In fact the vet who took the blood was unaware of the vast difference in profiles between domestic dogs and greyhounds. So i requested a lab report on the tests so that wecwe can better understand the results. The bloods have been sent to a lab in Brisbane that do greyhound profiles so that's a positive. I should have the results back in a couple fo days . Thanks for response Tom.
