Hi Dee,
In most circumstances three clear days rest is ideal for a greyhound to not only recover, but to also be extremely keen to chase that lure again.
There are of course some instances when an extra couple of days can be necessary.
Such as when the track was extremely heavy, the run harder than it should have been due to having been severely checked and still storming home, or higher than normal temperatures, and therefore the greyhound has stressed as a result. This is generally noticeable by the greyhound drinking more water than usual, being just that bit more lethargic, and slightly dehydrated as shown by a reduction in skin tone.
As always the length of the rest period after a run should be judged on just how hard the run really was, and on the recovery rate of the greyhound.
Cheers, Tom
