Hi Henning, Sorry for the very late reply but unfortunately I missed your post. Any additional food on race day in regard to the quantity and time provided depends entirely on when the greyhound has to race. When I was training racing greyhounds this situation seldom came up as I fed the quantity of food each greyhound required each day in two equal meals. In other words my racing greyhounds were fed a complete but small nutritious meal both morning and night, and because my diet was based on raw beef breakfast as well as the evening meal were identical. In addition after being taken out at midday they would get a hard biscuit to chew on, and then the same thing occurred after the last empty at 10 pm. This routine was not varied on race day. If your greyhounds are only being fed one main meal a day in the evening, and then had to race late in the evening the following day, they would certainly require additional food that was capable of supplying all of the energy needed for that race on the morning of the race. If you only have couple of greyhounds in work and there is a McDonalds restaurant handy, a bacon and egg Mcmuffin would come close to supplying the required nutrients as a race day breakfast. Again in other words ..... carbohydrates and fats - two slices of wholemeal bread buttered with lard, protein - a small quantity of meat and a slice of cheese, + a cooked egg for all the great nutrients they contain. Cheers, Tom
