hi Tom, while schooling a 14mth old bitch, she had a bad fall resulting in her hitting her back fairly hard on the track, at the worst she seemed sore. After 4 weeks rest she is feeling sore over her right hip when thumb pressure is applied into the muscle area near her pin bone, should i be concerned, she seems fine in the paddock where she is allowed to do what she wants. She had sight metacarpal which may of resulted in her swinging of the bend resulting in her fall, any help will be appreciated, Joe H

Hi Tapwatcher, As you can understand that really noticeable pain in a muscle area, particularly when the severity of the pain doesn’t really match the amount of pressure being applied, and there is no bruising swelling or other evidence of a muscle injury, that the pain is being caused by a sensitised nerve due to compression in the spine. The nerve in this case is most likely the sciatic nerve, with the compression being in the L7 - S1 area, and caused by muscle spasms in the soft tissue surrounding this area. In the initial instance the area both sides of L7 - S1 and the hip muscle section closest to the root of the tail should be warmed with a hot pack, and then thoroughly massaged. In regard to manipulations to release these spasms reading THIS SECTION may be of some assistance. Cheers, Tom

Tom, My 14 1/2 year old greyhound, Maximilian passed away on December 30th from what I believe was L.S. After more then 100 days I am going to adopt another retiring racer. I found really nice PDF files of some of your anatomy diagrams that I wanted to reproduce for the vet at the Agua Caliente Rae Track in Tijuana as a gift. Four of the diagrams are not in high enough quality for printing and I was hoping that you could help me with this. The people at Caliente in TJ have been really wonderful with helping me with my heart break so I thought that a set of these diagrams would be a great way to day thanks. As well I would like to know where I can buy your book for myself and one for the track. If you could reply to info@thehighyieldinvestor.com I would be most appreciative.
