hi tom have a bitch drinks bowls of water...is this water diabetes and what id the treatment etc... many thanks paul Hope this will help until Tom logs on as he has been having some health problems lately and may not be monitoring his site as much as usual. Kidney infections can also cause dogs to drink far more water than usual, first thing you need to do is get your vet to check her urine for kidney infection, including checking the specific gravity for water diabetes. If it's an infection antibiotics will be prescribed, if it's water diabetes Minirin [Anti Diuretic Hormone] is indicated, usually by the injectable route initially followed by Minirin drops adminisitered under the tongue or uinder the eyelid until drinking returns to normal. Overuse of electrolytes and kidney "tonics" especially products like Betacel, Neutradex and Recharge specifically can be also be a cause.

Thanks Joe ....... health is still a bit ordinary, and as far as I know at this point in time I will be unlikely to post much on here during May and June.
Hi Paul,
As Joe has said get the greyhound to the Vet and thoroughly checked out as the health problems that cause excessive water consumption are not something easily treated with home remedies, and could lead to severe long term health problems unless treated quickly and competently.
PS. Muscle damage to the left thigh (Lateral Vastus) particularly the top of the muscle can also cause excessive water consumption and acidosis type symptoms.
Cheers, Tom
