Hi Tom,
Had a dog race well below his best this afternoon and post race he was vetted. No injury but the on course vet diagnosed him suffering from "Thumps". Basically his diaphragm constricting his lungs producing an irregular heartbeat. He suggested a blood profile be carried out.
Never had it happen before and honestly never heard of it.
Can you enlighten me if you have knowledge of this condition and a recommended course of treatment please?
All the best
Chris.

Hi Chris, This is from a previous post on this subject: ThumpsSo the Vet is correct to say that to find the reason for this happening would require a blood profile, as this provides information on the electrolyte levels as well as other factors that may be causing athletic stress, such as anaemia. The other cause could be an undiagnosed injury, or a low grade viral or bacterial infection that is increasing the effort the dog has to put in. Cheers, Tom
