hi Tom, have a bitch with a small spot on her back that looks a little red, hair is thin and its about 2cm wide. looks a little like dermatitis of some sort. In your experience, is this normally a skin infection, so wash and antibiotics or a diet related issue, too much protein, wheat? have read a lot of different opinions Cheers

Hi Mike,
It certainly does not sound like a typical hot spot as with these a small circular section of hair comes away with a weepy sore under it.
The appearance of hot spots can sometimes be diet related.
However by your description of the sore skin area it sounds more like a fungal infection.
Certainly wash the area and then try treating it with an anti fungal cream morning and night such as Canesten or any other Clotrimazole based cream which is used for tinea and for what is sometimes described as ringworm.
Cheers, Tom

Hi Anthony,
It is certainly worthwhile to try the anti-fungal cream on those types of skin problems, used twice daily for 10 days ............. and no this cream does not contain anything likely to cause a positive swab.
Cheers, Tom
