another of my pups 18mths snapped a dew claw but after 6 weeks it still looks swollen around the area of the claw. sore to touch, could it be tendon damage, would the claw be best just taken away after such a long time with out the injury fully healing

Hi tapwatcher,

Dew claws just like toes can be dislocated or fractured and suffer severe ligament damage, and can take as much time to heal.

You are absolutely right, when this happens to a dew claw it is best to have it removed to avoid long term problems.
