A cracked fibula would be a strong possibility....

Hi tapwatcher,
As Joe has mentioned a fracture high in the fibula can cause a severe amount of pain in the area just below the knee.
However when you consider the amount of lameness the dog showed, and the fact that the actual calf muscle has bruising and is painful to palpitation, there is a real possibility that the dog has done considerable damage to the calf muscle and most likely to the top of the Achilles tendons.
Unfortunately if this has occurred the greyhound needs to be examined by a Vet with experience in regard to racing greyhounds to correctly diagnose the injury, and to provide advice on the best method of repairing the damage.
The area may require an anti-inflammatory injection to reduce scar tissue formation, followed by ultrasound therapy, and then treated with a muscle contractor to improve the function of the damaged muscle.
It is only by having this type of injury carefully examined by an experienced person that the full extent of the injury can be diagnosed.
Cheers, Tom
