Hi Tom,
I take vit c tincture myself. I was wondering could you give a dog this also as a way of incorporating vit c into their diet. I read somewhere that alot of these herb tinctures are a waste of time for dogs ( and maybe myself) as it would take forever to build up vit c this way. Is there any truth, thanks

Hi dj,
While canines including greyhounds, unlike humans, do manufacture Vitamin C in the digestive system, providing additional Vitamin C can certainly be beneficial, particularly in speeding up the healing of injuries and in supporting the immune system.
If you are using a Vitamin C tincture such as Rosehip extract, use half the human dose or the recommended children’s dose. However for best results it should be mixed in with the main meal just prior to feeding.
PS. In regard to the “building up” of Vitamin C in the body there is no such thing, as Vitamin C is used by the body and any excess is simply excreted, so it can’t build up in the body unlike oil based Vitamins.
Cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom,
Could you put a few drops directly on the tongue or mix 10 drops with 20ml of water and put it on there tongue, or is it the same whether you put on their tongue or their feed. As i take it myself there is no real taste-its just like water

Hi dj,
Because most greyhounds do not appreciate anything being squirted into their mouth, and are likely to want to spit it out unless it tasted real nice to them. Or the substance is designed to enter the body via the mucus membranes, I still think its best to put the required amount of drops on their main meal just prior to feeding.
Cheers, Tom
