Hi Philip,
There are two ways of looking at that situation, mainly because a full blood profile needs to be able to provide you with hard details not only about the basic health of the greyhound, but also about its ability to recover quickly after a race.
On that basis it does not make sense to rest the greyhound lets say a week, because by then even a greyhound with some health problems will have fully recovered, and you miss out on important information that should be gained from a blood profile.
Such as; what is the recovery rate of the greyhound, and what detrimental effects did the race have on the greyhound?
That is important information you need to know to be able to schedule a racing program for that individual greyhound, so that each subsequent run improves the fitness of the greyhound rather than affecting its health.
I believe that a full blood profile should be scheduled 72 hours or three clear days after a run, as by that time the greyhound should have recovered sufficiently to be ready for its next run, and if it’s not, at least the blood profile should tell you why.
Cheers, Tom
