gday tom, when choosing a pup do you aim to get the dominant "alpha", or should you choose a steady solid follower, or even the had to fight for everything runt? how does dominance and pack position effect the racing greyhound?
good luck to you and your dogs roodog

Hi roodog, sorry about the late reply. Certainly a pup that has a dominant attitude should in theory also be more dominant and motivated to beat the other greyhounds in a race to the lure, unfortunately that does not always relate to ability, and in some instances can also lead to other undesirable traits such as marring during a race. Never the less in my opinion a “stand up for my self” attitude in a pup is generally a good trait, rather than the pup that simply wants to beat up it’s litter mates, or one that scared to mix it with it's litter mates. However, there are a lot more aspects to picking out a pup from a litter and having halve a chance of picking something that is competitive rather than attitude alone. THIS particular post may be of some assistance. Cheers, Tom
