Hi there Tom, I was wondering if you may be able to advise me on a problem with my dogs. They were all on antibiotics (2 on Doxy and 1 on Amoxyclav) from 13th to 17th June and I also gave them a probiotic for 2 weeks. I wormed them on the 19th June with Paratek Plus and Ivermectin. I got a new batch of meat on the 24th June. Come early hours on the 25th June they all had the scours really bad and they were extremely foul smelling. I have stopped them on the new batch of meat on the 25th and have given them cooked chicken and rice for last couple of days and also been giving them Nature Vet Peptosyl for the last 4 days but they all still have the scours. At first I thought it must have been the new batch of meat but they haven't had that since 24th and are still scouring badly. Are you able to shed any light as to what more I can do for them to get them over it etc please? Any help or advice would be great. Thanks

I forgot to mention one of the dogs had a blood test on Tuesday the 21st June and other than some signs of minor dehydration all other results were in normal range.

Hi blk, It certainly is extremely frustrating when you do everything right and you still cop something like this. Unfortunately diarrhea has a lot of different causes, such as bacterial, viral, and also from protozoan infestations. In most instances severe diarrhea that does not respond to a bland diet and anti scour remedies will require the services of your Vet to solve and treat. Particularly the scours caused by the protozoa Giardia can be difficult to clear, and the same can be said for the scours caused by the Coronavirus. Giardia in DogsCanine CoronavirusCanine CoronavirusSorry I'm not much of a help, but unfortunately severe diarrhea can quickly dehydrate and debilitate a greyhound and does require with some urgency the type of treatment that only your Vet can provide. Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom, Thanks for your advice. I treated for Giardia with some Panacur and also took one of them into the vet. The vet gave me some Linco-Spectin and also Flagyl for them. They are still on their bland diet and started to improve once given the first lot of Linco. Thanks again!
