Hi there,
I have some greyhounds here that are all sneezing. Started out with just one (who was on antibiotics for a different issue) and no nasal discharge (took her to the vet and he seemed to think it was an allergy as she was the only one out of 5 dogs that had it) and now two of the other ones have sneezing as well but with a very runny nose. The discharge is clear and has been going for about 12 hours now.
There is no cough present and they all had kennel cough about 6 weeks ago now.
1 of them was booked in to trial tomorrow but I won't trial her and will call the vet in the morning once they re-open.
If you have any suggestions in the meantime that would be great please.
Thank you in advance.

Hi ACHOO, I’m inclined to believe that the runny nose and sneezing is in fact due to the dogs having had a “kennel cough” infection. The Parainfluenza virus, the most common infection causing kennel cough, damages the mucous membranes of the nasal cavities, and this leaves them extremely vulnerable to either a secondary bacterial infection, or an allergic reaction to pollen, dust, or even the perfume from a strong kennel disinfectant. Just double check that nothing has happened in the kennels or yards over the past 48 hours to cause this, and if nothing is apparent you are going to have to be guided by your Vet in diagnosing the cause. Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply.
You might be on to something there as I have been using a stronger disinfectant solution in the last few days.
I will take the one that is in full work to the vet tomorrow as she is the one that seems to be the most affected just to double check all is ok and it's not something more sinister and go from there. I will let you know what he says.
Thanks again.

Cheers, Tom Seems you were spot on Tom. There doesn't seem to be any infection present (very slight gland swelling only, all nasal discharge is watery and clear). Seems to be allergy based and possibly related to what you mention about the kennel cough in the past causing it. They are on some tabs for 7 days to clear it up and no hard work in the meantime.
