Tom,when would you run a dog after he has had spinal manipulation by a Chiropractor ? I ask this as I had a dog checked over and was told he had a few issues and would be fine to run in a few days,he had been trapping poorly in his last few races and also some serious bumping at the first bend and I had an idea his spine was not quite right,I couldnt find any other problems with him so went down the route of a Chiropractor, there was indeed a few problems and the Chiropractor fully expected the dog to run much better after treatment,I ran the dog 8 days after the manipulation (without a gallop),but he ran worse than ever,I cant find anything wrong with him and I just wondered should I have galloped him to loosen him up after the manipulation ?
Cheers

Hi Ray,
There is no such a thing as a set time that a greyhound should have a gallop after having spinal adjustments done.
The only reason for a greyhound to have spinal problems is due to muscle spasms across specific spinal segments, and any manipulation should only be done AFTER these spasms have been relieved by deep massage.
If this is not done the manipulations can worsen the problem.
All I can advise you to do is to place hot packs on the areas that have been manipulated for five minutes twice daily for three days, and ensure the spine of the dog is kept warm by keeping a rug on the dog, and to then give the dog another trial.
If that does not solve the problem there has to be other injuries affecting the greyhound’s ability to gallop comfortably.
Cheers, Tom
