Hi Havi,
The most like cause would be a wrist ligament injury, In particularly the accessory carpal ligaments that run from the underside of the stopper bone to the back of the wrist.
If the greyhound gets a knock during running while all of the dogs body weight as well as some driving force is supported by a single front leg that would be the most likely outcome.
To check for an injury in this area lift a front leg just off the ground while holding the dog steady. Then bend the wrist back to 90 degrees placing a hand under it to support it, then place the tip of your thumb of your other hand in the hollow above the stopper bone, and with firm pressure attempt to push the stopper bone towards the toes.
If there is an injury to the ligaments of this area the dog would certainly be very uncomfortable having this done.
Treatment consist of painting a strong liniment such as Boneradiol or Zheng Gu Shui to the underside and both sides of the stopper bone and about 25mm down the back of wrist of the affected leg twice daily for three days on, then three days off, and then three days on again.
During this treatment and for a minimum of ten day’s afterwards walking only and no running at all.
For the first couple of runs back behind the lure a straight run would be best, or a hand slip into the turn rather than a hard run out of the boxes/traps into a tight turn.
After that, all being well, it should be work as usual.
Cheers, Tom
