Hi again Tom can theracalcium be used before racing if so how do you administer it Hi Bob, There is no valid reason for injecting a calcium supplement prior to racing, and about the only thing it would do is cause pain in the muscle tissue it was injected into, and while it can be used subcutaneously, it has a very slow absorption rate when used in this manner. Theracalcium is mainly useful for whelping bitches and in severe neglect which has resulted in pups with rickits. Yes I know strong muscle contractions require calcium but that is ionized calcium, and low blood levels of calcium are generally caused by low blood protein levels, mainly albumin,, as a result of liver disease or severe malnutrition. Injection calcium prior to strenuous exercise is not going to make a healthy dog perform better. Cheers, Tom
