Hi Tom can you please help me when straddling the dog if you place your index finger in front of the right shoulder blade and press down the dog dips down and if you do the same on the left side the dog will do the same can you please tell me what the problem might be and how to treat it thanks Hi Bill, I’m sorry mate but there is no way of even guessing what may be wrong from the supplied information. It could be an injury in the base of the neck, damage in the saddle muscles, an alignment problem in the thoracic spine, damage in the muscle tissue that holds the shoulder blades stable, or a muscle spasm that is causing pressure on the nerves in the area. If it’s not possible to have the dog examined by your vet at this time the only thing I can suggest is to use a hot pack to the area three times daily, some gentle massage, and a warmth producing liniment for three days and then recheck the area again. If that doesn’t relieve the discomfort a thorough injury check by your vet would be advised. Cheers, Tom

Hi Bill,
Just see how you go with the hot pack massage and liniment treatment, and when you massage take in the whole of the neck and the saddle muscle area, while avoiding excessive pressure on the areas at the base of the neck where he’s currently very sensitive.
Cheers, Tom
