Hi Sean, Sorry about the delay in replying to your query. AMP 5 contains Adenosine Monophosphate which is one of the Adenosine substances used by the body as an energy component in muscular contractions. Therefore pre-race loading with any of the Adenosine substances such as Adenosine Monophosphate or Adenosine Triphosphate increases the amount of readily available energy for muscle function. The basic directions on AMP 5 suggests injecting at 24 hours prior, and again at 4 hours prior to racing. Unfortunately in my honest opinion giving a greyhound any intramuscular injections any closer than 24 hours before a race is highly likely to cause muscle pain in the muscle the substance is injected into, and is therefore likely to do more harm than good. This product should NEVER under any circumstances be injected intravenously as this will cause severe heart problems and could lead to death. So as far as AMP 5 is concerned my advice would be to only use it at 24 hours prior to racing. However if due to the greyhounds condition or due to cramping problems it is essential to increase the energy components in the body and to buffer against stress, a product called Tridenosen is a better option as this can be used by SLOW intravenous injection 6 hours prior to racing. TRIDENOSENCheers, Tom Technical information on Adenosine

Hi Esteve,
With AMP5 the recommended dosage by the manufacture is 1/2 ml per 10 kg, however the accepted dose is 2 ml injected intramuscular regardless of the weight of the greyhound.
For a worthwhile response with Tridenosen the dose if injected intramuscular is 2 ml in each back leg, and if given by slow intravenous injection as much as 5 ml may be injected.
Cheers, Tom

Hi dj, This page provides info on AMP 5While I have never used this product subcutaneous I was told some years ago that it stings severely, and the directions do state that is to be used I.M. only. Also keep in mind that it is available as an oral paste. Cheers, Tom

Hi Rex,
The new rules on the use of products that increase cobalt in the system should only affect those products that are primarily used for increasing blood counts, and as such it will have no affect on the use of AMP5 as this is a product that increases available energy for muscles to use.
Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom It will give advice on the use of Mongolian horses Thanks I'm sorry mate but I have no knowledge about the appropriate use of injections with any breed of horse. Either a website dedicated to horses or Google would be best to obtain the correct information. Cheers, Tom

What can possibly be more effective with the drug? Leaving out any drugs that may return a positive swab such as anabolic steroids, the most effective all round "pick me up" both before strenuous exercise to increase energy, and after to aid recovery is still Tridenosen. Cheers, Tom

AMP5 is dope free or not ? If the AMP5 is from a reliable source and uncontaminated it cannot return a positive result when swabbed, and yes I would therefore consider it dope free. Cheers, Tom

Hi tom, The product by nature vet that is labelled AMP-5 is this the product you mentioned that cannot be swabbed? Cheers To the very best of my knowledge it is not a product that contravenes the rules of racing and as such should not cause a positive swab. However like everything it's still best to read the label and ensure that there is no withholding period listed. There is some concern on my part that a number of popular injections may have been copied, including an exact copy of the label of the genuine product, by unscrupulous bootleg manufacturers and therefore may not contain what is printed on the label. That is why in my previous reply I mentioned that it should be obtained from a trusted source, and this really applies to all injections including vitamin injections that may be used from time to time as an aid in treating health issues. Cheers, Tom

Hey Can I use this product in sports .before my race .I am a runner [sprinter] In humans it is not really worthwhile to use AMP5. The larger quantity that would need to be injected and the pain that may be caused at the injection site virtually rules out the use of this product in human athletes. Cheers, Tom
